2010 Texas Pete Twin City RibFest Judges
Unlike some of those high falutin competitions that bring in so
called trained judges, we turn to local celebs who like to chow
down, and yes, a couple of BBQ geeks.
Porky LeSwine aka the BBQ Jew
Porky LeSwine is a North Carolinian born and bred. He grew up in the hinterlands of Unincorporated
Orange County. Porky’s parents hail from New York yet he disparagingly refers to all Northern
transplants (and vegetarians) as Yankees. He’s been eating BBQ for 20+ years with only minimal
damage to his arteries, and is blessed to have a job that takes him to the heart of Eastern and
Lexington-style territory.

Miss Texas Pete
They say a picture is worth a thousand words so we're not going to elaborate too much on why we
like having Miss Texas Pete in the judges tent. Suffice it to say that she is a rib tastin' veteran.

his book "A 'Q' Review". He is also a Certified Barbeque Judge through the Kansas City Barbeque
Society. He resides with his wife and dog in Hillsborough, NC and works for the National Guard in
Raleigh.

William 'Bill' Hayes, WSSU Athletic Director
This year's judging team is led by none other than Winston-Salem State
University Athletic Director, Bill Hayes.
Coach Haye's exploits in these parts are legendary, having coached WSSU's football team to three
Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships (1977, 1978 and 1987) and seven
division championships, turned in back-to-back undefeated regular season marks in 1977 and 1978
and posted an overall record of 89-40-2.
In all, Hayes spent 27 seasons as a collegiate head football coach, compiling a 195-104-2 overall
record en route to establishing himself as the winningest coach at both Winston-Salem State and
North Carolina A&T as he finished his career with more victories (195) than any other college football
head coach in the history of the State of North Carolina.
We have no doubt that Coach Hayes will take on his duties as a judge at the RibFest with the same
seriousness and dedication to excellence that he has exhibited throughout his career.
